Journey Through Peru

Hi there! 🙂 I would like to take you behind the scenes of  mine and my husband’s recent survey trip to Peru! You might ask what a survey trip is.  A survey trip is a short trip that missionaries preparing to go the field, take in order to help better prepare them for their move and upcoming life there. So join me as we walk through some of the things we did during our nine days there.

The missionaries we will be working with are David and Katie Gardner. One of my favorite things about our trip is the fact that we just got to spend time with them doing some of their normal everyday things.

We arrived on a Wednesday morning around 7:30. It was a little breezy and about 65 degrees. This was our view after we stepped off the plane.

That evening we got to visit one of the churches, Iglesia Bautista Getsemani (Gethsemane). Kyle was given the opportunity to share a little of his testimony and the Pastor had Missionary David Gardner preach.

Part of a survey trip is figuring out the cost of living. To do this we went to about a dozen different stores and markets and priced everything from refrigerators to cookware. I also had the opportunity to go with Katie to her little local “corner store” so to speak, and see where she purchases her produce. When I say local, I mean it was at the end of the street they live off of, no car necessary.

These are pictures from another market, that had everything! They even sold pets.

Kyle had the opportunity to visit the Bible College during some of their classes. It’s amazing to see all the men and women who are preparing and are serving Christ with their lives.

One of the most exciting things to see is the churches and all that God is doing. We visited seven different churches during our time there. Only one of the churches is being pastored by the missionary, the rest all have a Peruvian pastor.

One of the most amazing and powerful things we saw was the lights of the city at night. The pictures don’t even give a glimpse, it’s one of those things you have to see in person! One evening they took us up on a mountain and we looked over the city, as the lights just wrapped around as far as we could see. It’s amazing to look over and think of what the Lord has already done there. It’s saddening to think that there are places in the city that still don’t have a church.

Please pray for us as we continue to raise the rest of our needed support, so that we can get to Peru quickly. And please pray for the missionaries down there David and Katie Gardner, and the work that they are doing.
