Be an Encourager Through Enabling

We all like to be encouraged don’t we?  And as easy as it is to discourage someone, you can easily encourage a person. We all have heard of Barnabas, and how he was an encourager.  There are many ways to be an encourager.  One way is to be a giver, to be a friend and another way is to be an enabler.  Here are some ways that you can be an encourager through enabling.  I pray that this will be a help to you!

1. Give the person a chance.

a.  Acts. 9:26-28  In verse 26 Paul, then Saul came to the disciples to join them. However they were afraid of him and didn’t believe that he was a disciple.   In verse 27 it says that Barnabas took him.  Barnabas gave him a chance.

a. Be willing to be hurt.  It is the only way to be a friend.

b. Take a chance, step out, risk something!!

c. Some things that will help you give others a chance:

*Double vision – Judges 6:12
*Each person does not go at the same speed.- Genesis 33:13,14
*Love them like family – 1 Timothy 1:2
*Believe in them so much that they begin to believe in themselves!

2. Give the person a challenge.

a.  Acts 11:21-26

b. Jesus did. – Mark 3:14; Acts 4:13

c. Timothy was to do – 2 Timothy 2:2

d.  Jesus commanded us to – Matthew 28:18-20

e. Leaders main priority is training others – Ephesians 4:11-16

f. How can a person grow if we do not give them a chance? – Colossians 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

g. Mature women are to teach younger women. – Titus 2:3;5

h. Paul learned from Barnabas and Timothy learned from Paul. -1 Corinthians 16:10, 11

3.  Give the person confidence.

a. You go to them and do not wait for them to come to you. – Acts 11:25

b.  Realize to enable a person to do anything for the Lord will require effort on your part. – Acts 11:26a And when he had found him….

c.  Include them in your ministry

*Barnabas had been sent
*Barnabas would get all the “glory”
*Barnabas was going to have to share the “glory”
*Barnabas was going to have to listen to new ideas
*Barnabas was going to have to be patient
*Do you have a ministry to include someone in?
*Who are you training in that ministry?

d. This was life on life mentoring

*Where did Paul stay?
*Do you think they did things together or separately?
*Things are more caught than taught.

e. Paul got involved in the ministry.  He worked

f.  Barnabas let Paul have ownership

g. Notice it is Barnabas and Paul, then it becomes Paul and Barnabas

h.  Enable others in such a way that they surpass you and you are ok with that

i. Always remember, if you and I are one of a kind, we have failed.

j.  Stick with them no matter what ex. John Mark

*John Mark goes with Barnabas and Paul on the first missionary journey
Acts 12:25-13:13
*John Mark goes home
*John Mark wants to go with them again.  Acts 15:36-41
*Paul said no!  Barnabas said yes!
*2 Timothy 4:11 Only Luke is with me.  Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

k.  Enable others to serve the Lord.

l. Die to yourself and become alive unto them.
