Dear M.O.M. (Mother’s Of Missionaries)

As we celebrate mothers this time of year, we at women behind the scenes wanted to take a moment to honor and thank all of our M.O.Ms (the mother’s of missionaries). Those ladies who have helped train their children in the way of the Lord, who have given their children back to the Lord so that they might serve Him no matter where, who have given the longest car ride to the airport and the last hug before their children board a plane to a strange land, who have thoughtfully and carefully bought presents and sent care packages full of taco seasoning, ranch dressing, favorite candy, clothes, and toys. To the mothers who take a phone call and even skype at 3am due to time differences, to the mother who gets on her knees every morning and evening and asks the Lord to protect her family far away and to bless their ministries, to the mothers who have missed birthdays, Christmases, family gatherings, and even mother’s day while their children ministered to other families! To you M.O.M. thank you for your sacrifice!

Here are a few letters from some of our missionary wives to their mothers:

Dear Mom,

Thank you for being you! The best mom and best friend a girl could ask for. Somehow in a world where moms were either moms or “friend” you found a way to be both. You are an amazing example of a godly woman, wife, and mom. Not a day passes where I am not thankful for you and the impact you have had on my life. I love you so much! – Hannah

I just wanted you to know how much I love you and how thankful I am to have you as my mom! You have always been so supportive of me, our family, and the plan God has for us. From the very start, you’ve been one of our biggest cheerleaders and closest friends! You have went above and beyond your “sender mom” call of duty….making time to visit us every year and serving us while you’re here… going out of your comfort zone to do crazy things for your kids and grandkids! You’ve been a source of comfort during our days of culture shock, and reverse culture shock, and culture shock again
…You’ve never said a negative word, but just encouraged us to keep going…even during difficult and scary times when we knew it was hard for you to do. I had no idea as a young girl that even into adulthood you would continue to teach me so much just through your example. Thank you so much for being a godly mom! For denying yourself and supporting us in our efforts to give Him maximum glory with our lives! I don’t deserve you, and I thank God every day for choosing you to be my mom! I love you!

My mom is a great blessing to me! She is a wonderful example of a strong work ethic and someone who always strives to do the right thing. I am so happy that she accepted Christ as her Savior as a 26 year old mother and wife and then strived to raise me and my younger sister in church. Because of her and my dad, I had the opportunity to see the difference Christ makes in lives because it made all the difference in theirs. I am thankful they kept us in church because I too realized my need for a Savior and accepted Him when I was 17. Thank you mom, for praying for me, supporting me, and for always being in my corner! I couldn’t have asked for a better mom! I love you!

Thank you for putting me in God’s hands when I was just a baby. I know I hurt you when I shared what I believed to be God’s plan for my life. Thank you for supporting me in it anyways. I have watched God do a work in your heart as you let us go, and now I get to see God do some amazing things here in Nepal. I miss you every day, but I know you are only a phone call away. I hope I will be a godly example to my babies as you have always been to me. I love you!

I appreciate my mother in so many ways. Thank you mom for always being there for me. Thank you for raising me in church. Thank you mom for supporting us as we are going as missionaries to China. You are the best mother in the world. Love you so much.

RebeccaDear Mom,

I don’t know how many times you have told me that you made mistakes as a mother and should have done things differently. Every time you say that, I can never figure out what you are talking about. I can’t imagine a better mother. To this day you still support my dreams even though they have taken me and your grandchildren across the world. “We love you and we want you to do whatever the Lord wants you to do,” were the exact words you spoke when I said I wanted to be a missionary. You have done every thing in your power to support me in that. You continue to take care of so many loose ends for us that make this missionary life possible. You are the one person in the world I can be myself around and tell anything to without fear of judgment. Every day some part of you is reflected in what I say and do. Whether I am at home with my children or teaching ladies, children, or teenagers at church, truths you instilled in me come out. Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made for me. Thank you for the spiritual truths you have imparted and for being such a godly example to me. Thank you for not only being my mom but my friend. You are the most fun to hang out with, and you keep me laughing. Thanks for being willing to listen or give advice at any moment of the day or night. Thank you for how you love my children like your own and for always seeing the best in them and in this hard headed daughter of yours. Thank you for seeing my husband as your son. It warms my heart the way you two interact. I can never thank you enough, but I pray to be half the mother to my children and friend to others that I have always seen you be.

Dear Mom,

Thank you, for being a daily example of what it looks like to be a godly lady. I have never had cause to doubt your commitment to God. You’ve been an example of humble submission and support as you’ve followed Dad around the world…literally! You’ve successfully raised children that know and love God. And you’ve been a real friend to me. Thank you for all you’ve done and sacrificed for me. I wouldn’t trade you for the world! I love you. Happy Mother’s Day! – Charity

Dear Mom,

Happy Mother’s Day! I wish so much I could spend this day with you, give you a hug and cook lunch for you so dad won’t have to wait in a line somewhere . I don’t have enough words to express my love and gratitude for you. The longer I am a mother the more I understand your love, devotion and sacrifice for me. I hope you have a wonderful day, looking forward to spending it with you next year!  There is no words to express how much I love you!

me and mom
Dear Mom,
Thank you for being the spiritual cornerstone in my life, and being the first person to lead me through God’s Word. I know that it is difficult that we live in far away, but thank you for making the special memories, staying in touch with us, and making your home our Green Gables! When I walk into your house I always know that there will be hot tea with milk waiting for me, a warm hug, and conversation until 2am. I love you very much! Remember to look at the moon!
