We often feel and wonder where our place is in the ministry as a girl, girl in high school, or single girl. You sit and wonder what can you do to get involved. Or maybe you’re watching everything from a distance, trying to decide if you want to do this whole “surrender your life to Christ” thing. Well here are a few ideas to get you started. I will say I am not the most qualified to write this, but I do remember my high school/ non married days still very well.
1) Surrender your life to Christ!
-If you are, like I said above, sitting on the edge of surrender and not sure if you should go for it? You should! Dive in! HEAD FIRST! Go all in and just immerse yourself on the things of Christ. At 15 I surrendered my life to whatever God would want. I assumed that meant I would end up being a pastors/ youth pastors wife, and staying at home while I homeschooled our kids. I never imagined I would be traveling the U.S. raising support to go to Peru as a missionary. After you surrender, don’t keep it to yourself, tell someone. Your mom, pastor’s wife, youth pastor’s wife, or youth pastor, anyone that would help you stay accountable. You don’t have to do this alone, there are plenty of people who will help and encourage you. Without the encouragement and prayers from family, Christian friends, and godly leadership I probably would have given up somewhere, or strayed away.
WARNING!! If you do surrender be ready for an adventure, because God’s dreams are way bigger then anything we could ever imagine.
-Now you ask, “Now that I’ve surrendered, what do I do?” Well I can tell you, DON’T sit around waiting for God to strike you on the head with “His perfect will”. I did this.. Instead…
2) Do His known will.
– Read His word and Pray.
-Ps 119:16- “I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.”
– Get an accountability partner. Someone you will send your devotions to each day. If you have trouble staying on track, (like me) or you just don’t know where to start, talk to your youth pastor’s wife or pastor’s wife about a reading plan or good devotional book to help.
– Acts 1:8- “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
-Matt 24:14- “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
-2 Cor 4:5- “For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.”
– Something I realized after we got married was that we were about to start deputation, as missionaries, when I wasn’t even telling people at my job. From that point on I started taking tracts with me, I would take a certain number and make sure they were gone, and in someones hand before I left.
1 Peter 2:9 says: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” It is our job to show Christ and what he has done for us, to others.
How do you think that you’re going to figure out what God wants you to do with your life (bigger picture), when you’re not doing what He wants with your life (immediate picture), right now?
This blog is so big it had to be put into a three part series.
This is only Part 1 🙂 Look for Part 2 and 3 later.
