Do you ever take time to look back over your life and see how God has worked and moved? This is one of my favorite things to do, as it is a great reminder to me that God always has a plan. There are so many stories I could share with you to show His work in my life, but I thought I would share just one.
I, along with my 2 brothers and my sister, was born in upstate New York. Both my mother and father were born and raised there. When I was about 7 years old, my dad lost his job. God provided a new one- in Middletown, Ohio, 11 hours from home and family. At my young age, I don’t remember much- a yard sale, storage units, an apartment building, and house hunting are a few of the memories I have. But, I imagine this must have been very difficult for my parents! They would sell most belongings and pack up the rest, leave all of their family and best friends in order to move to a city where they knew no one!
In this new city, they found a home, and a good Christian school for all 4 of us children; and it was through this school that they found a wonderful church. It was in this church, that we, as children, each heard the gospel and the need of the gospel to be spread throughout the world. I was saved after a Wednesday night service when I was 10, and surrendered my life to God’s will at 17. At this point, each of my brothers had already surrendered to God to be missionaries.
During all these years, my dad has needed to switch jobs several times, but we have never needed to move away. Now, almost 2o years later, they remain in the same house, and members at this same church. One of my brothers is a missionary to China, and the other is on his way to India. I am excited to be on my way to Japan with my husband.
Isn’t God good? I believe it was His will that my family be in that church all these years. I am so thankful for parents that seek after God when making decisions and yield to Him, even when it was hard, and didn’t make sense at the time. It is wonderful to know that God is always in control and has a plan, even when we don’t quite understand.
I encourage you to take some time and look back on your life. Is there a time when things were happening that you didn’t understand? Did you wonder, maybe, what God had planned? Now, when you look back, do you see that God was working the whole time? Please feel free to share your stories!! I would love to hear them!!
