Got time?

Has anyone ever asked you for help, or if you would like to spend time together, and your answer has been, “Well if I finish.. (Insert task here)” or “Well if I have time.”. I’m guilty…

Many times we fail to see how self-centered our lives can be. If we take a step back and look at our daily, or even weekly routines how often are we impacting the lives of others?
I’ve been reading in Romans and I just recently read this in Romans 15.

We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. Romans 15:1-3

How often are we working on doing something for someone else’s good and not to please ourselves? Or looking to build our brother up, rather than ourselves? When is the last time we simply told someone thank you for what they do, or dropped someone a “just because I was thinking about you note”. Which one of your friends could use extra encouragement right now, that we just simply don’t have time for? Who are you pouring yourself into right now? We wouldn’t ever want to inconvenience ourselves for the sake of others. Maybe it’s time we do just that. Put ourselves aside and think of how we can help a sister in Christ. Even if it means going out of your way to help them. It could be something as simple as sending them a note, or take them out for coffee and just let them know you are praying for them.
After the Summit (a yearly event with our church in Gatlinburg, TN) we grabbed a bite of lunch with some friends before heading our separate ways. As our husbands talked, we sat there crying together while we discussed and encouraged each other in our fears, worries, and excitement for the next steps to come. I was so encouraged just to have someone to chat with about things that had been on my heart. That would have never happened if her and husband wouldn’t have taken the time to be with us, after a long and tiring weekend.

Who’s life are you impacting right now? If someone was discouraged would they know they could go to you? Or would they know there was no use, that you were just too busy to care?
