No Turning Back

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. -Matthew 16:24-25

After a short time of being in the states, my Mom and Dad were taking my family and I back to the airport.  It was a quiet and somber trip.  The country was in an upheaval and our family was worried for us.  I was a little nervous myself to be quite honest, and I was thinking, this doesn’t make any sense.  What are we doing?  I worried about how the country was changing and what the future would be, and how my children would cope with leaving family (Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc.) once again.

It was a difficult moment…A sad moment…A silent moment…

and then, out of nowhere, my 2 year old son started singing,

“I have decided to follow Jesus No turning back, No turning back!”

I joined in with him and thought this is what it’s all about:

“The world behind me, the cross before me, I have decided to follow Jesus.”

“Though none go with me still I will follow, I have decided to follow Jesus.”

“No Turning Back, No Turning Back!”

This event took place a couple of years ago, but this simple tune still rings through my heart and mind.  And I must tell you, that although there are some tough moments, there is more JOY and SATISFACTION in serving Jesus than anything else in the world.

So, I challenge you during your difficult moments to remember, “No turning back, No turning back” for Christ is Worthy!

    1. Oh, you do not know how timely this post is! We have been here almost five months and the culture stress has finally hit. I hate being stared at all the time, being thought of as nothing more than money, constant power outages, all the dirty dishes, not speaking the language well, garbage everywhere, political protests, all the water and petrol shortages… The list goes on and on… But how worthy He is! How sufficient He is! He brings a verse, and song, and an encouraging moment to help me refocus! It isn’t about me. It is about Him. Thank you!

From what has been called “the darkest place on Earth” I can say His grace reaches here, too!

    2. So true Beth! Sometimes it is so hard not to want to turn back but for Christ we must not turn back but always going forward!

    3. Loved this, Beth. I can imagine that was a sweet and wonderful memory for your family, while sad and somber! Thankful that the Lord uses little people to speak to our hearts sometimes!

    4. I love and pray for you and your sweet family. I thank you for not turning back even when you could have. I am so challenged by your life and your love for your people.
